GAME UK is a retail chain specializing in video games, headquartered in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The company has stores across the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as an online store. The company was founded in 1991 by Terry Norris and Bev Ripley. Norris had previously worked for Virgin Games, while Ripley had been running a computer games mail order business called Gamesland. The pair opened the first GAME store in Fulham, London.
In 2007, GAME bought the UK arm of rival retailer Gamestation. This gave GAME a total of around 400 stores across the country.
In 2012, GAME went into administration (bankruptcy) after struggling to compete with online retailers such as Amazon. However, it was soon bought out by OpCapita and relaunched.
Today, GAME is still one of the leading retailers of video games in the UK and Ireland. It stocks all the latest releases for all major gaming platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. You can also find a great selection of pre-owned games atGAME stores and online.
